  • Episode 1: Community

The first episode is about what characterises this place, what the architects wanted to capture, promote and cultivate with the shape of the buildings - and what is at the same time lively, changeable and difficult to grasp: it's about community. What characterises the community in the student village at Schlachtensee? How did it develop here? And what role do organisational charts play?
  • Episode 2: Creating a cooperative

The second episode tells the story of a rebirth: at the end of the 1990s, the student village was about to be demolished. The traditional housing project was largely empty and was to be sold. But a small group of dedicated students and alumni decided to save the village. They pulled out all the stops and set up a cooperative. We talk about the background, the challenges and the courage it took. How did they manage to raise the funds and take over the administration?
  • Episode 3: The student village as an icon of post-war modernism

The Schlachtensee Student Village is considered an icon of post-war modernism. The architects Gogel, Fehling, Pfankuch took great care to create a space that was far more than just a housing complex. The design promotes community life and follows the principle of flowing space - inside and outside are closely interwoven, encounter becomes architecture. This episode sheds light on how visionary ideas took shape in the building and continue to shape the idea of community today.
  • Episode 4: Cooperativism

In this episode we look at the nature of a cooperative and how it is practised in the student village of Schlachtensee. Cooperative management promotes solidarity, participation and the fair distribution of resources. It combines economic stability with social commitment and creates sustainable structures. Find out why co-operatives are not only beneficial for the student village, but also as an economic model as a whole. The student tutors play an important role and contribute to the vibrant community in our villages.
  • Episode 5: The former Nazi forced labor camp on the grounds of the Schlachtensee student village

The fifth episode is devoted to the darkest chapter in the history of the site. Where the Schlachtensee student village stands today, there was a Nazi forced labor camp in the 1940s—one of around 3,000 in Berlin, where over 400,000 people were forced to live and work in inhumane conditions. Learn how the cooperative is now searching for traces of this past and preserving the memory of the victims.
